Bloomsbury Silks

Silks of Bloomsbury’ have been created by residents of Bloomsbury, Holborn and King’s Cross through free workshops as part of the 2023 Bloomsbury Festival. 
In my workshop we all brought our individual specific ideas and photos to illustrate our local heritage.
I brought along images of the gorgeous 200 year old Bloomsbury plane – outside my front door. Which weren’t accepted, when we voted! 

But I also suggested we show the checkerboard of all the Bloomsbury squares.
And images linked to air pollution. So the famously filthy EustNO2 road. And Airspace.ai – since it’s easily accessible for everyone. Here’s the image I made for London Climate Action Week / Bloomsbury Festival, with a background from Airscape.ai. Taken early one Sunday morning – when the cars/cabs start from/to Euston:

After we voted on what images to put in and the basic layout, some artists painted outlines in wax on the large long silks.
And heres some photos of what happened next: inking coloured backgrounds, then details, onto the silks:
